Mona Remount Depot
Army Remount Depot Mona is a depot of the Pakistan Army. Remount Depot Mona was established in 1902 and is sprawled over a vast area of more than 10,000 acres along with the 660 acres forest. Mona Depot today stands out as the prime breeding grounds for fine quality horses, mules and donkeys. It was originally designed as a stable backbone for the regular supply of Mules – Mountain Artillery Mules (MA) and General Services Mule (GS).
==History==
Mona started horse breeding in 1902 and now holds the distinction of producing world class thorough-breed, Arabian, Suffolk Punch Noriker horse, also called Pinzgauer, Cleveland Bay, and Hanoverian horse. The Donkeys breeding studs in Mona were established in 1906, providing high quality stallions for mule breeding.
The carts in Mona are reminiscent of a glorious past of the horse in this part of world. There are a lot of historic things in Mona Depot like the buggies used by Baba-e-Qaum Muhammad Ali Jinnah and the Queen Elizabeth 2 still there in display for visitors and also a museum where you can find early 19th century’s used buggies.
Mona was enlisted as full member of the World Arabian Horse Organization (WAHO) within a year of its application to the prestigious world body, entrusted to “maintain throughout the world the purity of the blood of the horses of Arabian breed. It is recalled that Remount Depot Mona is the only institution and organization of Pakistan, which has the ability to breed and train horses of the international standards and quality
